We are the Champions!

What a night for the Meridian swimmers! At the Primary Schools Gala Final at the Eltham Centre they came FIRST in the small schools section. They also won 2 of the most prestigious events – with both the boys AND the girls winning their medley relays.
Lulu got the night off to the perfect start by winning the Butterfly – and Gabriel did so well to finish 5th in the same event. Jude earned a bronze medal in the Year 4 Freestyle – finishing two places higher than he did in the heats. Then Rasika came 4th in the Year 5 Backstroke – finishing 3 places higher than she did in the heats.
Miriam romped to victory in the Year 6 Backstroke with a fantastic start and strong finish. Milo pulled off an incredible swim in the boys event – finishing one place higher than he did in the heats. And bear in mind he was in the Year 6 Backstroke – 2 years above his year group.
Daniel swam well to win a bronze medal – in the Year 5 freestyle, which is a year above his age group.
Lulu was the 2nd quickest swimmer going into the Year 6 freestyle – but she went one better in the final and won gold. Gabriel went quicker in the final than he did in the heats to earn another couple of valuable points in the Year 6 freestyle.
Katelyn had a cracking race to win silver in the Y5 Breaststroke. Ally also put in a fine performance to win bronze in the boys event.Rosie was up next – finishing FOUR places higher than she did in the heats in the Y6 Breaststroke with a fine swim. Ryan earned a bronze in the boys event with a terrific swim.
And in the Medley relays the kids put in an incredible performance to win gold in both events. Miriam, Katelyn, Lulu and Saskia all swam above themselves to finish almost half a length in front of the second-placed team. The boys did the same, with Daniel, Ryan, Jude and Gabriel all increasing Meridian’s lead throughout the race, and winning comfortably.A special mention to all those who swam in the heats – Marta, Titiana, Maja, Lewis and Omran—because you ALL helped to create a terrific team spirit and set things up for an incredible victory. Meridian becomes the first school to retain the Small School trophy.
The Coach's Report - from our poolside reporter, Dave Davis
Jo, was very proud of all the children. She described the atmosphere by the poolside as both tense and exciting. “It was wonderful to watch each race and tremendous when we heard the result. Congratulations to everyone involved—to Dave Davis for his coaching expertise, to all the staff, to our parents for their incredible support on the night and most of all to the children for their hard work and fantastic achievements.”
