At Meridian School, we aim for all children to be the best that they can be whatever their starting points or home circumstances; to be happy, safe and secure and to enjoy school and learning.
We believe that all children have an equal right to a full and rounded education which will enable them to achieve their full potential and that all teachers are teachers of children with special educational needs.
We use our best endeavours to secure special educational provision for pupils for whom this is required, that is ‘additional to and different from’ that provided within the differentiated curriculum to better respond to the four areas of need identified in the SEND Code of Practice September 2014):
Communication and interaction
Cognition and learning
Social, mental and emotional health
Please note that every local council in England must write down what help there is in their area for children and young people with special educational needs or who have a disability (SEND). This is for everyone to read, and is called the Local Offer. The Local Offer describes the help you could get with these things:
* Social care services
* Travelling to school or college
* Training for work
* Young people becoming adults and starting to live on their own
* Children and young people from the area who are studying somewhere else
Greenwich is a Pathfinder Borough which has committed to developing the Local Offer and other aspects of Special Educational Needs reform. You can read the Greenwich local offer at : http://familiesinformation.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/kb5/greenwich/fsd/localoffer.page
The Meridian Local Offer/SEND report summarises how we support children with SEND in our school, which staff members support children with SEND and how to contact them, and how our school systems support children with SEND, including our links with other professionals.
