News - Summer 2012 (3)

As a follow up to their initial visit in January, a small number of pupils and staff from All Cannings School in Wiltshire came to see Meridian for themselves.  Yr 5 played hosts to the group:  there was an exchange of questions and answers about the 2 schools and then we took our guests on a whirlwind tour of the great sights of Greenwich including the Thames, the Cutty Sark and the Naval College.

Everyone joined in with a typical Meridian lunchtime and the boys looked like they enjoyed the football game in the cage.  We finished with a tour of the school and Yr 5’s jazz version of Happy Birthday!  We hope they all enjoyed their trip and we are looking forward to working more closely together next year.

Six children from Year 6 accompanied Elizabeth to the official launch of the

Emirates Air Line over the Thames.  BBC News captured their trip and their  thoughts on travelling over the river at such heights.

The end of our first Sports Week culminated in a special cluster assembly  hosted by Meridian for representatives of the schools within our local cluster.  Children who took part in the different sporting activities and competitions during the week, came together to celebrate their efforts and achievements.  Alongside other schools, Meridian children took part in rounders, tug of war, cup stacking, football competitions.  We are proud to say that the combined team of Yr 3 & 4 were crowned the 2012 Tug of War champions!

Former Olympic 400m runner,  Donna Fraser presented the awards and talked about her inspirations and determination to become an athlete.  Coming soon ... highlights of the Sports Fortnight.
