Meeting some past and future Olympians

As part of Art & Writing festival the school had the opportunity to meet a former OIympian and a group of young athletes who hope to go for gold in 2012 and beyond.

John Baker, who grew up in Greenwich, is a former Olympic 3-metre spring board diver who took part in the 1972 Munich Olympics. We held a special assembly where he talked about his early life in Greenwich. how he discovered diving, his training programme, what it was like to be a member of the British Olympic team and how he coped with the terrible news of the deaths of the Israeli athletes during the 1972 Games. John also talked about his life after diving and showed us some of his watercolour paintings.

Sophie, David and Louise are young athletes supported by the Starting Blocks Trust, a Greenwich based charity committed to helping young people's sporting dreams come true. They told us about their individual sports - pentathlon, judo and track - and shared some of their dreams and aspirations for the future.
