Young Voices 2018

At the end of January, we welcomed pupils from the Trevor School in New York who joined us for a morning rehearsal, tucked into one of the Donna’s tasty roast dinners and a took a walk to the O2 for the Young Voices concert.

Sign2sing 2018

To mark Meridian's 2018 Deaf Awareness Week, we welcomed Jazzy & Benny to our assembly where they talked about life as deaf teenagers and their dreams for the future. They also visited all the classes where they answered lots of interesting questions from the children. Y1 were keen to know the signs for guinea pig and cat.

At our final special assembly, children from each class spoke about the deaf awareness activities they have taken part in during the week. Classes learnt to finger spell their names; Y6 played “crack the code” games to see if they could understand each other using sign language; Y3 created Deaf Awareness posters with tips on how to communicate with deaf people; Y4 created their own sign names based on their interests; the Castle Group children thought about what they want to do or be when they grow up. Y5 used BSL to say hello and introduce themselves and Y2 learnt the signs for different feelings.

The whole school sang and signed ‘Friends Forever’ and we had a one off signed performance by the Foundation stage of a song all about Goldilocks!
